  • Ciudades y países que he visitado

I've been to all of the continents having just gotten to Africa for the first time last year. I've been to Antarctica but didn't actually step on land there. I was on a cruise ship that sailed to a bay along the Antarctic peninsula and then along the peninsula itself. I've been to the UK the most of any other place outside of the US however that's mainly been England and mainly in or around London. I love London and could live there if I had a chance. Other countries I've been to are in no particular order:

    France
    Romania
    Spain
    Italy
    Greece
    Turkey
    The Netherlands
    Morocco
    Peru
    Argentina
    Mexico
    Canada
    Japan
    India
    Several Caribbean Islands
    Australia
    New Zealand
    Cambodia
    Madeira (Island owned by Portugal)
Canary Islands (Islands owned by Spain)

  • Mis logros de mayor orgullo

I think helping raise two sons has been my proudest accomplishment.

  • Mis intereses en otras culturas

I'm mainly interested in finding out how growing up and living where we have has shaped us. I'd like to find out how that has affected your world view and whether or not what you've learned outside of that has changed the way you view yourself, others, other places or the world itself.

  • Soy un experto en...

I don't think I'm an expert at anything. I know a lot about wine. I know a lot about the music I like. I know a lot about technical support and the products my country makes. I know how to train others at several different things.

  • Un reto personal

The hardest thing I've ever done is to learn to blow glass. It's a very challenging process and I never really got beyond being doing very basic things. My wife is a very good glass blower so I know what's possible.

  • Libros/autores/películas de tu preferencia

My favorite author is Harlan Ellison. I read mainly science fiction, books about science especially the brain and memoirs by musicians. For films I mainly like comedies these days but my top ten movies have a lot of non-comedies in it. My top 10 movies are:

    1. Zardoz
    2. Mary Poppins
    3. A Clockwork Orange
    4. Groundhog Day
    5. Brazil
    6. Toy Story
    7. 2001 A Space Odyssey
    8. Bagdad Cafe
    9. Get Shorty
    10. American Beauty

  • Viviendo en el extranjero por un año

I would go to London and see as many live shows as I could. I spent two weeks in London in Jan/Feb 2019 and ended up seeing 12 shows and 22 different artists during that time. It was an amazing time. I love London in so many different ways but the music scene there is amazing.

  • Siempre disfruto hablar sobre...

I love talking about wine, especially Zinfandel, but I like talking about wine in general as well.

  • Haz del mundo un mejor lugar

I'm afraid that only magic would be able to make the world a better place. If someone could cause everyone to have acceptance, compassion, understanding and love for everyone else the world would be a much better place. Unfortunately there are too many people who are unable to do that it would take magic to give them those qualities.

  • Habilidades personales

I do glass torchworking and also teach beginners how to use a torch.

  • Placeres de la infancia

Like most kids I loved dinosaurs, I enthusiastically followed the space program and I loved reading.

  • En 10 años

10 years from how I will be retired but I'm not sure what I'll be doing when I'm retired. My wife and I might run an art glass center or we might be travelling the country in a small RV. I hope that we'll still be hiking and bicycling.

  • Estoy emocionado por...

I'm excited about summer coming to an end. Although I love the longer days it just gets too hot sometimes. I'd rather have it be cool or cold outside because for me it's always easier to get warmer than it is easy for me to get cooler.

  • Era mejor antes

It was much easier for average people to purchase houses for my parent's generation. Where I live now one has to be making a large amount of money to be able to purchase a house. Even then people often need financial assistance from their families to be able to make a down payment.

  • Es mejor ahora

Listening to music has improved immensely since even when I was in my early 40's. One can listen to most anything either for free or for a small monthly fee. Before music was widely available on the internet one had to rely on radio stations and sometimes TV to hear music before deciding to purchase it. Now you don't even have to purchase it you just need to purchase a streaming service.

  • Desearía que la gente sepa más sobre...

I wish people would learn more about how the brain works and how sensing all of the things we do takes so many portions of the brain. I think it demystifies what it takes to be a living, thinking person and how the acts of seeing, hearing, speaking rely so much on the brain.

  • De pequeño siempre quise...

I would have liked to have learned more about what dating was, why one would want to date and how one can learn to ask people out on dates and how to handle the rejection of someone saying no to your invitation.

  • Una carrera sin obstáculos

I would have loved to have been a writer who was paid to review travel, food, wine and live music performances. I'd also like to have those paid for as part of my work.

  • Recientemente aprendí...

The world is in much better shape than I thought it was. I'm reading Factfulness and I totally blew the quiz about the current state of the world. You can take it here yourself https://factfulnessquiz.com/factfulness-quiz-2020 .

There are still many things threatening the world, climate change, deforestation, species extinctions, the rise of authoritarianism in many places, etc... However there are many things which have improved a lot in most places around the world.

  • Algo no muy común sobre mi

Many years ago I got my private pilot's license, my scuba diving certification and my braces off all within the same two week period.

  • Mi padres y yo

I'm older so this question isn't quite as relevant for me as it for many others. My mother passed away last year so my father is my only living parent. Although I am opinionated and do enjoy doing things my way I'm no where near as strong in those desires as my father is. I'd say the best way to express it is he is much more obstinate than I am.

  • Mis sentimientos sobre el futuro

I'm very optimistic about our potential for an amazing future. I'm very pessimistic that we'll get over our greed both individually and as various groupings, tribal, national, ethnic, political or other types of groupings in order to achieve our potential.

  • Mi opinión sobre la naturaleza humana

I believe that it's human nature to be naturally good. The book Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman explores this and comes up with the same answer. I highly recommend it to anyone.

  • Me preocupa...

Global worming, the environment, minorities of many types (ethnic, racial, sexual orientation, etc...), the rise of authoritarianism around the globe, the intrusive surveillance in many countries, mistrust in news organizations, mistrust in science and many other things concern me.

  • Un truco o consejo

If you're interested in learning something allow yourself to be worse at it than you want to be when you start to learn it. Very few people are able to be good at things when they first start. Don't compare yourself to anyone else when learning something. You can use them to set a goal for yourself, but don't feel you need to be as good as them or progress as quickly as they did. Also if possible learn to take joy in the learning process and celebrate progress even if you don't get as good as you want to as quickly as you want to. Also rather than telling yourself you can't do something tell yourself you haven't finished learning to do it. Sometimes one needs to learn a lot of smaller pieces of what you want to do before one can do the big thing. It often isn't apparent what all of the smaller things are so that's part of the learning as well. Take joy in each piece you learn and master even if you haven't reached your overall goal yet. You're on your way.

  • Remordimientos

I regret not sticking with music lessons and learning to play at least one instrument reasonably well. I have taken piano lessons, violin, clarinet and guitar lessons. I took piano lessons at various locations over the years but never really got that good at it. I took the violin, clarinet and guitar lessons in school and spent one year on the first two and one semester on the second.

I also regret not dating more. I never really understood the point of dating and was really frightened of it when I was a teenager. I was afraid of not knowing what to do on a date and I was also afraid of being rejected if I asked someone out on a date and they didn't want to go on one. I now understand dating can be fun and if you approach it as just a way to get to know someone else as opposed to starting a relationship with them it's much more fun and easier to do.

I also regret not keeping in touch with friends I've had. I've let them slip out of my life and didn't give enough effort to reach out to them.

  • Para mejorar el sistema escolar...

I wish that they would teach people that not everyone will like them but that is OK. They should also teach people that if you don't like someone that's OK, but you still need to be civil to them and to not tease them just because you don't like them or they may be different than you. I'd like there to be more lessons about our commonality as opposed to our differences.

  • Valorado o subestimado

I generally don't think that anything is overrated or underrated. If a lot of people like something I don't it just means our tastes are different and I don't share the same tastes as that group of people. I feel the same way when a lot of people don't like what I like.

I think it's better for me to say that either I don't understand what attracts a lot of people to like something I don't. I can also say that I have an appreciation for the things I love about the things I like but people who don't do not share my appreciation.

I often find my tastes run contrary to most other people, so I'm used to being in the minority when talking about things I like or don't like.

  • ¡Algo que decir al mundo!

You are all wonderful and unique. You all have something to contribute to the world. You are all worthy of love and being loved. I find the world to be a much better place when I look at the rest of the people in it those ways.
